RogueTech is an expansive mod for BattleTech. The mod adds: new mechs, weapons, mechanics, enlarged map, more factions, and real time massive competitive multiplayer(not unlike an MMO). For balance reasons, the player has the option of toggling various of the mod. This is possible, in part, because RogueTech in many ways is not one mod, but more akin to a mod pack that has reached a state of unification and cohesion on a large scale. As for has how toggling aspects of the mod can be done, while still maintaining a multiplayer aspect, it largely comes down to the modification of a scoring system. allowing your usage of more powerful equipment, in turn allows that equipment to be used against you. The added danger and reward system is incentived with a percentage increase in acquiring domain, which plays into territorial acquisition in the multiplayer aspects. The multiplayer, in a nut shell, consists of asynchronous campaigns between players effecting the domain sizes of their desired faction.

The nature of RogueTech’s inception came from a sense of distaste for BattleTech the game, but a love of the franchise. many People found that while BattleTech was certainly not a bad game, there were features, from the Tabletop game it was based off of, that should’ve been present. RogueTech seeks to fill this issue as a symbiotic parasite, gaining notoriety itself and attempting to uplift the quality of games based on the BattleTech IP.(Schleiner 37) To the mod’s credit, it can largely be considered a success in that regard. among mods present for BattleTech, RogueTech is generally held as the most expansive by the community. It is widely known among people who mod BattleTech and by many is considered a superior way to the play the game, as opposed to just the base game.
